Experiential Education Program Assistant

Wage: $15.50/hour

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Experiential Education (EE), the successful candidate will provide administrative support to the various programs provided by the EE office including internships, career and academic placements, events, grants, awards, courses, and other projects. A main function of this role is to act as front-line support within a busy office environment to address general inquiries pertaining to EE, and ultimately to encourage student engagement in EE activities.

Purpose and Key Functions:

  • Address student inquiries pertaining to EE offerings via in person drop-in, email, at events, through social media, etc.
  • Provide administrative support (photocopying, data entry, collecting and tracking applications, monitoring event registration, etc.)
  • Preparing electronic communications, including weekly mass emails and social media posts and assisting in the preparation and dissemination of promotional materials (including photos, posters, bulletin boards, testimonials, etc.)
  • Use OSCARplus to create and maintain postings for internships, academic placements, events, etc.
  • Complete statistical reports related to student participation in EE activities
  • Representing EE at various events

Requirements:

  • Strong preference will be given to graduates from the 2015 – 2017 academic years of any undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills, with a very high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly motivated with the ability to self-manage, take initiative and maintain a positive attitude within a very busy office environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, ability to interact with diverse audiences, high level of professionalism and comfort with speaking in small groups
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office proficiency and ability to use or willingness to learn Adobe InDesign and social media platforms as necessary
  • An understanding of offerings available through EE
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required

 Asset:

  • Experience participating in one or more EE activities
  • Previous experience working in an office environment
  • Ability to articulate the benefit of experiential education to others
