Social Sciences Career Crawl: February 25 – March 22

A series of career events featuring alumni, profs, workshops, panels & more! Open to all Social Sciences students.

The Social Sciences Career Crawl is a new collaboration between Social Sciences student societies and the Office of Experiential Education (EE).

Kicking off after Reading Week, the event runs Monday, February 25 to Friday, March 22 to help you:

  • gain confidence in your career options
  • build skills for employment
  • explore what you want to do with your degree

It brings together events with a career and educational focus from across Social Sciences disciplines, and encourages students to explore career and program options by attending events offered in and outside of their home departments.

Week of March 18-22

Tuesday, March 19
Connecting Your Interests to Majors and Careers (Level 1 Soc Sci)
(Student Success Centre & Social Sciences)
3:30 – 5:30 pm

Making decisions about your program? Wondering about career options? This workshop will help you understand how your interests relate to your academic program and career options. You will receive your individualized Strong Interest Inventory® report to help you make informed choices and explore options.  Workshop is delivered by career professionals from Student Success Centre and delivered in partnership with the Experiential Education Office, Faculty of Social Sciences. Registration:  Please register at least 3 days prior (BEFORE FRIDAY, MARCH 15) to the workshop.  A personality assessment must to be completed prior to workshop. Building Healthy Communities (Health, Aging & Society Student Association and Sociology Society)
5:00 – 6:45 pm in LRW 5001

The Sociology Society and Health, Aging, and Society Student Associations are hosting a career panel with social science alumni. Guests will underscore the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to improving health and social outcomes. Guest speakers will share their academic and career trajectories and how they work towards building healthy communities. Our guests are employed in fields covering advocacy, policy, mental health and addictions, counseling, food insecurity and more! Prizes and refreshments will be provided. 

Thursday, March 21 
Econ Talks 2019 (Economics Society) 
6:00 - 7:30 pm at TwelveEighty Bar & Grill 

Join the Economics Society as they take classroom discussions to industry professionals in the fields of labour economics, financial economics, and health economics. Their guest speakers will be interviewed via an onstage fireside chat, and students can be a part of this process by asking questions based in the fields mentioned above. There's more! Come and network over free food and drinks as well as an opportunity to win fantastic prizes in our raffle draw!

The McMaster Political Science Students Association is pleased to present, “Lessons on Leadership with Maureen Sabia." Join them Tuesday, March 26, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a one-hour interactive discussion with Chairman of the Board of Directors of Canadian Tire Corporation, Maureen Sabia. Named one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women, appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, and awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, stop by to learn how Ms. Sabia successfully became and remained one of Canada’s most successful leaders.
