Understanding your Academic Advisement and Student Summary Reports

At some point in your time at McMaster you may find yourself asking, "What are do the codes listed on my Academic Advisement and Student Summary Reports mean? How do I even get an advisement report?". Your Academic Advisement and Student Summary Reports are important tools that will help keep you on track for graduation.

Jan 23, 2019

The Academic Advisement Report available on Mosaic allows students to track their academic progress and review their program requirements. Please review the  How To Read Your Academic Advisement Report tutorial.

Note:  In your undergrad program your academic level is determined by the number of units that you have successfully completed:

  • Level I    0 - 21 units
  • Level II   24 - 51 units
  • Level III  54 - 81 units
  • Level IV  84+ units

According to McMaster’s new Course Repeat policy, effective September 1, 2018, students may repeat a course twice (i.e., attempt a course three times).  Cross-listed courses count as attempts. Grades from every attempt will appear on the academic transcript.  The Cumulative GPA will include only the grade earned on the most recent attempt.  Units earned will be counted once toward the student’s program requirements, regardless of the number of times the course is repeated. Prior to September 1, 2018, the grades from all attempts are included in the GPA calculation (unless the code EXTR is assigned to the course).

To facilitate implementation, beginning January 21, 2019, the following new repeat codes will appear on your personal Academic Advisement Report and the Student Summary Report, a document typically used by staff in Faculty, Program and Departmental Offices:
